From December 5 to December 9, KEGOC held open public hearings in the cities of Kyzylorda, Turkestan, Taraz, Shymkent, Taldykorgan, Konayev, and Almaty as part of a feasibility study for the future ‘South Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project. Construction of Power Grid Facilities’. The meetings were chaired by representatives of local executive bodies of the respective administrative-territorial units.

The participants of the hearings got acquainted with the environmental impact report for the future project, which contains information on compliance with the requirements of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as measures aimed at preventing, reducing and mitigating environmental impacts.

‘South Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project. Construction of Electric Grid Facilities’ was initiated by the Head of State and is aimed at improving the reliability of power supply to consumers in the southern energy zone by strengthening the 500-220 kV electric networks of Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan and Kyzylorda regions, including through the construction of a 500 kV Shu-Zhambyl-Shymkent overhead line with the corresponding expansion of electrical substations.

The public's permission was obtained following the hearings, and they were regarded as having been held in a formal capacity.
